The Umrah season is expected to start in March 2010. However, the Saudi authorities do not give fixed dates in advance indicating when they will effectively open the Umrah visa system.

Based upon previous years’ experience, we recommend that you do not make plans for travel until 13th March 2010.

British Airways Increases Capacity to Jeddah  Top

British Airways is to increase capacity and introduce first class on its London-Jeddah route this winter, as it rosters four-class B777 aircraft on to the route in place of the current B767.

The carrier relaunched flights to both Riyadh and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia in June, and already serves Riyadh with four-class Boeing 777 aircraft. BA will now also roster the 777 on to the five times-weekly Jeddah route from October 31, which will also add a first class option to the service.

Said Paolo De Renzis, BA’s area commercial manager Middle East said 'The uptake we have experienced during our first month of operations on both the Riyadh and Jeddah route has been extremely positive and our confidence in the Kingdom is demonstrated through our increased in capacity on our Jeddah service.'

bmi Increase Baggage Allowance to 30kg  Top

Baggage allowance on bmi flights to Jeddah has been increased to 30kg plus a 10 litres container of Zam Zam water effective March 2009.

Effective January 2009, all bmi flights to Jeddah are operating via Riyadh in both directions. The route change has been implemented to allow for capacity increase on the busy Riyadh route. The aircraft touches down in Riyadh for 50 minutes whilst Jeddah passengers remain onboard.

Flights depart Heathrow terminal 1 at 10:35 arriving in Riyadh at 18:55 and departing at 19:50 arriving in Jeddah at 21:20 local time.

Whilst bmi offer a one stop service to/from Jeddah, Saudi Arabian Airlines continue to operate non-stop direct flights. Effective 31 May British Airways will resume direct non-stop services to Jeddah 5 times weekly. Saudi Arabian Airlines Cabin Upgrades  Top

Saudi Arabian Airlines have begun rolling out their new cabins on Boeing 777 aircraft on the London Heathrow route.

The upgraded cabins include leather seats, improved personal entertainment systems with larger seatback screens and touch screen operation with memory card slots. A new communications system is also being installed which will allow passengers to use their mobile phones onboard the aircraft once regulatory permission has been obtained.

Saudi Arabian Airlines� exclusive facility of onboard prayer room continues to feature on these aircraft. Seating has also been upgraded in the Business and First class cabins.

Generous Baggage Allowance from British Airways  Top

British Airways is to resume services to Jeddah on 31 May 2009, operating 5 flights each week.

For the UK Hajj and Umrah market, British Airways has announced the most generous baggage allowance on the route.

Passengers will be allowed to check in two items of baggage weighing up to 23kg each, bringing the total baggage allowance to 46kg. In addition to this, passengers will be allowed to check in container of 10 litres Zam Zam, which must be safe wrapped prior to check in. One piece of hand baggage is allowed per adult/child which must not exceed 56cm x 45cm x 25cm in dimensions.

British Airways are offering unbeatable promotional fares on the route, starting at �270 inclusive of taxes for the return journey.
